Battle Royale games have become insanely popular. From an origin in the Minecraft Hunger Games mod to the likes of Fortnite and PUBG, they’re some of the biggest games around. But what if you prefer a more MOBA-style top-down experience, and want to pick a character to suit your play style? Then you’ll probably want to check out the Battlerite Royale Gameplay reveal video below, along with the Steam Early Access and Open Beta details.
As a standalone spin-off from the existing Battlerite, it mixes the MOBA and Battle Royale genres to try to make something different.
That starts with the chance to pick from different character classes, and skydiving onto Talon Island from the back of a wyvern to do battle. The map includes items and consumables including barrel disques, rocket boots and bear traps. And the top-down, birds-eye view is definitely different from current third-person titles based on traditional shooters.
“Our take on the genre differs a lot from the FPS Battle Royale games out there. Battlerite has always been about arcade-like MOBA action, and we want to stay true to the core of it while scaling up the experience and adding new exciting elements,” says Johan Ilves, Marketing Director at Stunlock Studios. “With 20 different classes to pick from, a bird’s eye viewpoint and a unique combat system, we are confident that we will stand out in this crowded market. This is not only the Battle Royale game all MOBA players have been waiting for, it’s a treat for any BR gamer who wants a fresh take on the genre.”
Although veteran Battlerite players will be familiar with the input and combat system from their time in the arena of the main game, the 20 Champions have all been revamped for a better experience in the battle royale environment.
