Samurai Riot is a 2D solo or local co-op arcade beat ’em up from French indie developers Wako Factory. And it’s just become available on Steam, costing £10.99 / $14.99 / €14.99. So if you fancy a side-scrolling challenge, then it’s worth checking out. Particularly as the storyline has multiple branches based on th emoral decisions you make, which can lead you to a total of 8 different endings.
In Samurai Riot, you play as enigmatic female Ninja Sukane. And you can fight alongside either Azu, a fox which can transform into weapons. Or Tsurumaru, a loyal Samurai armed with both a katana and some grenades.
Developers Wako Factory formed in 2014, and estimate that it’ll take you around 60 hours to unlock all fighting schools and go through all the available stories in the game.
Kevin Buchet, Game Designer at Wako Factory “We are massive fans of cooperative games, especially arcade style and Samurai Riot really focus on the co-op features. For example, if you protect your partner’s back or hit together the same enemy, you’ll be rewarded and unlock a deadly cooperative attack! Even the story involves both players equally, you’ll have to make team-based choices, or enter a PVP fight against your partner to win the lead!”
The aim was to create a game which was easy to pick up and start playing, but difficult to master. And at the same time, you’ll be able to enjoy the stylised graphics while you’re becoming a more advanced fighter, with the blend of Japanese mythology and cyberpunk. Samurai Riot is out now for the PC on Steam.
