Bring Me The Horizon, arguably the UK’s biggest rock/metal band right now, have just released their fifth studio album titled That’s The Spirit, their first release under major label, Columbia Records.

One of the most eagerly anticipated albums of 2015, That’s The Spirit seems to be the end result of Bring Me The Horizon’s evolution from a hardcore/death-metal band to a more mainstream rock/metal band, and their new sound is one that really does suit them.

With a lot more synth/electronic sounds courtesy of Jordan Fish (keyboard) and some surprisingly good clean vocals from Oli Sykes, That’s The Spirit appeals to a much wider audience than any of the band’s previous work.

Those into a more electronic/pop sound will like songs such as Oh No, Run, and Follow You – songs that almost completely move away from the rock genre and really emphasise Sykes’ new sound.

What You Need will be a big hit with those indie-rock fans out there, and Avalanche is very Linkin Park-esque. Tracks such as Doomed, Drown and Blasphemy remind me of Bring Me The Horizon’s previous record, Sempiternal (2013).

Personal favourites, though, are Throne, a song that will really get a crowd moving, True Friends, which is one of the heavier songs on the album, and Happy Song, a real festival anthem.

The album is extremely well mixed. You can hear each individual aspect of every song – no one goes unnoticed – and Oli Sykes’ lyrics are as strong as ever, a personal favourite being “You can run but you can’t hide, time won’t help you ’cause karma has no deadline”.

All in all, That’s The Spirit is a thoroughly enjoyable album, and I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be a huge success. If this is the sound Bring Me The Horizon decide to stick with, they’re going to go very far, even further than they have already!

Definitely worth a listen, I’m going to give it a solid 9/10!
