Earlier this week news from StarWars.com emerged revealing that an electronic music compilation would be released on store shelves in March and digitally this month. The album – titled Star Wars Headspace – has been described as a collection of electronic music “infused with Star Wars sound clips and effects”, and features a selection of fifteen tracks from Röyksopp, Kaskade, Flying Lotus and more.
Rock that, Kenobi
Some of the tracks from Star Wars Headspace have already been played on Apple Music, and the full list of tracks can be seen below. Producing an album of music influenced by sound elements from a popular movie franchise certainly makes Star Wars Headspace stand out amongst traditional soundtrack collections, and as someone who hasn’t seen The Force Awakens I still generally associate Star Wars music with orchestral bombast rather than electronic melodies, so it’s nice to see the films inspiring a soundtrack like this. Whether the final album manages to do The Force Awakens justice remains to be seen, and there’s no telling how well the proposed clips and effects from the film will sit with the tracks, but the artists and groups contributing to the album suggest that it will be worth listening to when it’s available.
