Remember the excitement when you got your first videocassette player, and someone bought you Star Wars: A New Hope as a present? If you want to understand how technology has changed for someone in their 30s, I remember watching The Empire Strikes Back at a friends house on some kind of reel-to-reel-projector.

They certainly got the voiceover right. And I do want to complete my collection. Especially as I had to dig out my VHS copies to teach my son the important lesson that Han Shot First!
Turns out it’s not the only 1980s Star Wars trailer parody. I actually really like this one, which not only works on the visuals with some Drive / Grand Theft Auto title graphics, but also adds a suitable synth soundtrack for an ’80s straight-to-video scifi film. And it’s even available in amazing 3D!
Sadly there probably won’t be an official VHS release of Rogue One, or any future Star Wars film. But at least you can watch the Youtube parodies before reverting back to your DVD, Blu-Ray or Laserdisc. And you won’t have to spend 20 minutes fiddling with the tracking wheel to try and minimise playback issues…
