Co-Op Action RPG Killsquad To Launch Summer 2019

24th May 2019 By Dan Thornton Leave a Comment

Ever fancied being a futuristic sci-fi bounty hunter ? With co-op action RPG Killsquad coming to Steam Early Access in Summer 2019, you’ll have the chance to try it out for yourself.

The name refers to the teams of hunters grouping together to complete contracts. So you’ll be able to play in single player or with friends. And you’ll need to cope with dynamic environments on each planet you encounter, with procedurally-generated levels meaning it’s different every time.

Add in automated defence systems, deadly creatures and other enemies to battle, and there should be plenty going on.

There are four character classes, with the Assassin, Warrior, Specialist and Support to level up and customise. And the RPG elements include loot, upgradeable gear, and a live contract system which means you’ll be offered contracts to undertake in real time – with other players able to drop in and join an open mission to lend a hand.

If you’re not convinced by Killsquad yet, it’s still worth giving it a second look towards Summer. Mainly because the indie developers Novarama are actually First Party External Developers for Sony, and known primarily for the Invizimals franchise. The augmented realist game has sold more than 2.5 million units, so although Killsquad is their first self-published title, they’re a pretty experience indie outfit.

Watch the Killsquad Trailer:

The look and feel actually reminds me a lot of Livelock, which was first title developed by Tuque Games and came out in 2016. That focused more on being a futuristic top-down twin-stick shooter. But a lot of elements in both games reference fairly common game and sci-fi conventions. And the ability to join other players in open mission.

Having played Livelock through a lot after it was part of Xbox Games with Gold, I’d definitely be up for something that builds on that type of action. Here’s hoping Killsquad can deliver when it arrives on Steam Early Access.
