There’s a whole range of official and third party Xbox controllers to use with your Xbox One or PC. But if you want something with class, then a good quality see-through console or controller has always stood out. Which is why the new special edition translucent Xbox wireless controllers look interesting.
Retro gaming fans might remember the translucent Famitsu or Astro Boy Game Boy Lights, or the “This is cool” Sega Saturn. Or for the Xbox, the original translucent green launch team edition crystal limited edition or Kasumi-chan Blue version. And while clear consoles may have become less common with the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, these new special edition translucent Xbox wireless controllers might make up for it a bit.

Both the Phantom Magenta and Artic Camo editions look pretty good, and will cost you £59.99, which is the same as many of the standard colours ( black, white and red are cheaper). The Phantom Magenta Special Edition will be released on March 17th, 2020, and you can pre-order them now. The Arctic Camo will be released on May 26th, 2020, and are also available to pre-order now.

Both have idential specifications for playing on the Xbox One, PC or mobile devices (thanks to Bluetooth).
You get a textured grip to avoid slipping, custom button mapping via the Xbox Accessories app, a 3.5mm stereo headset jack to use any headphones, and the usual Xbox thumbsticks, D-pad and ‘Impulse Triggers’. Which sounds like something that would normally counselling and calming techniques. But just means the normal analogue triggers.
To be honest, the special edition translucent Xbox wireless controllers are the normal standard controllers. But they do look pretty nice compared to most of the more garish, and more expensive, options out there. For example, the Star Wars Purge Trooper controller which will set you back £169.99 (although it does come with a charging stand).
And anything that reminds me of the Hello Kitty and Biohazard Code Veronica / STARS Dreamcasts can only be a good thing when I’m gaming.
