Not A Hero coming to PS4 in February

13th January 2016 By Qazimod Leave a Comment

On Tuesday roll7 published an update on the PlayStation EU blog announcing that Not A Hero would be released for PS4 this February. The 2D side-scrolling cover shooter initially came out for PC owners in May 2015 and combined intuitive controls – slide, shoot, use pickups – with non-stop action and plenty of humour. Presented in colourful pixel art and accompanied by a catchy chiptune soundtrack, it was a surprise favourite for many last year, and the 2D shooter format will be a suitable fit for DualShock 4 play.

Vote Bunnylord

The plot is as silly as you’d imagine for a game like this – an anthropomorphic rabbit named BunnyLord has travelled back in time in order to be elected as mayor and save the world from impending doom. As part of his electoral campaign he enlists the help of a selection of individuals to help clean up crime on the streets, which is where you – the player – come in. Most levels see you wiping out all of the enemies in the area but there are often secondary objectives in the level and bonus goals to aim for if you’re a fan of fast times and item collecting. Whilst roll7’s previous game OlliOlli required patience and practice before you either mastered the stick flicks or broke your PS Vita, Not A Hero has digital movement and a few buttons for sliding and shooting, so it’s somewhat easier to get into. Meanwhile there are a number of playable characters to unlock that offer variations on the base gameplay – some can shoot whilst sliding, some move faster than others, some have longer slides – and so it rewards continued play as you obtain more characters and experiment with different approaches to levels.

Not A Hero – Tight and Hard

Naturally, the character variation only helps the player so much, as the difficulty of the levels soon increases as stronger enemy types are introduced, time limits get tighter and secondary objectives get harder. It’s not uncommon to find yourself retrying levels again and again so that your perfect streak of completed objectives in the level select screen never has any blemishes. At the same time, the levels never outstay their welcome and – just like OlliOlli – you can play Not a Hero in ten-minute bursts or enjoy extended sessions in the evenings.

Not A Hero will be coming to PS4 in February. More information about the game can be found at notahe.ro and roll7.co.uk
