On Monday The Chemical Brothers’ official Twitter account revealed the music video for Wide Open, taken from their eighth studio album Born in the Echoes. The song itself is a mellow collaboration with Beck that serves as the closing track on the standard album (the deluxe edition features extra songs), and in the video we see dancer Sonoya Mizuno perform balletic moves as the camera pans towards and away from her, revealing – well, see for yourself…
Wide Open and laid back
It’s a simple but effective video that contains some clever camera work and great animation, and it suits the laid back nature of the song very well. In the past there have been other videos for Chemical Brothers tracks that are more playful and creative (and – in the case of Sometimes I Feel So Deserted – just plain weird), but it’s an eye-catching video for a song that’s quite catchy in itself. Anyone who has listened to the Born In the Echoes album can attest to the variety and creativity throughout each of the tracks, from the energetic choruses of “Go” to the slightly more understated title track. “Wide Open” (and to an extent the preceding track “Radiate”) serves to sooth the ears after so many big beats and rapid beeps.
Chemical Brothers: Previous works
The announcement from the official website also reveals that the directors of this video previously worked on visuals for “Setting Sun” and “Hey Boy Hey Girl”; videos that can both be found on the “Singles ’93-’03” DVD if you want the best viewing experience.
