Hideo Kojima is one of the best known figures in videogames after his work on the Metal Gear series for Konami. And now a Death Stranding extended trailer is available for his first post-Konami release.
The open-world game is will be exclusive to the PlayStation 4 when it’s released on November 8th, 2019, and offers a wide variety of gameplay in an open-world environment.
Kojima has also released a statement about the themes of game.
People have created “Walls” and become accustomed to living in isolation.
“Death Stranding” is a completely new type of action game, where the goal of the player is to reconnect isolated cities and a fragmented society. It is created so that all elements, including the story and gameplay, are bound together by the theme of the “Strand” or connection. As Sam Porter Bridges, you will attempt to bridge the divides in society, and in doing create new bonds or “Strands” with other players around the globe. Through your experience playing the game, I hope you’ll come to understand the true importance of forging connections with others.
The title was first revealed back in 2016 at E3 as part of Kojima announcing his split with Konami and partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment. Previous trailers and teasers have been pretty odd, but this Death Stranding extended trailer shows a clearer picture of what the game will actually be like.
The main character Sam Bridges is a courier who has to explore a dark open world transformed by the Death Stranding phenomenon. And carrying a baby around with him in a pod.
Other actors involved include Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux, Lindsay Wagner, Troy Baker, and Guillermo del Toro.
Other details released by Sony include the editions available with a Special Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition. But the most interesting is the Death Stranding Collector’s Edition, which gives you in-game items, a keychain, and a life-saved baby in a pod for $200 or £174.99.
In the UK, the Death Stranding Collectors Edition is a GAME retail exclusive at £174.99, alongside the Special Edition for £69.99 and the standard version at £49.99.
As you’d expect, there’s been an Amazon listing for the game since 2016, and they also have the standard edition as a £49.99 pre-order.
