If you like fast, frantic arcade action, then twin stick arcade shooter Nex Machina is worth checking out. It’s not only been developed by Housemarque Games, previously responsible for Resogun. But famed Robotron 2048 and Smash TV creator Eugene Jarvis was also involved as Creative Director.
Nex Machina features a full aracde campaign that can be tackled solo, or via local co-op. You’ll enter each zone and then try to save humans while also staying alive. The threat to humanity comes from machines which have become consious and want to wipe everyone out. So you’ll be fighting back with an upgradeable character and six different special weapons.
There’s replay value with three difficulty levels. Plus a range of alternative paths and secrets to be discovered. When you’ve visited areas, you can then return to them in Arena mode with faster speeds and other modifications.
And there are also world, country, city and friend leaderboards, player ranks and monthly tournaments. In addition, online challenges and feats will keep you trying to get better. Plus, there’s a full built-in spectator scene mode, which is becoming essential in the modern Youtube and streaming videogame world.
Twin stick arcade shooter Nex Machina does look pretty good, as a colourful top-down voxel destruction game. It’s the first title to be self-published in the 23 year history of Finnish developr Housemarque. And both Harry Krueger, who led the game design, and Ari Pulkkinen who helmed the synthwave and retro inspired soundtrack previously worked on Resogun.
If you fancy trying twin stick arcade shooter Nex Machina, then you can download it now for the PC and PlayStation 4. There’s no word yet about an Xbox One version. The sountrack is also available to purchase separately via Amazon – interestingly Amazon US is taking pre-orders for a VR version of the game with a release date late in 2017.
