I’ve never considered myself to be a good enough cook to deserve expensive pots and pans. If there’s an issue with the food I make, it’s more down to the chef than his tools. But there does come a time when it’s probably worth investing in something better than the cheapest budget cookware. It probably should have been around the time I stopped living in a house with other students and claimed to be an actual grown-up.

But with a new house and kitchen, and effectively starting from scratch, that day might have arrived. After bulk buying starter sets to be able to feed myself, I’m now thinking I’d like to remove fried eggs from a pan without a chisel, or have to screw the top back into the saucepan lid after every use.

So a recent email from John Lewis caught my eye, as apparently these Eaziglide products are not only in exclusive finishes which look pretty cool, but the Neverstick2 finish apparently lets you ‘dry fry’ without oil or butter as it’s 7 or so times more resilient than typical non-stick coated frying pans, which sounds pretty impressive.

Apparently there’s only 750 of this frying pan available with the gold metallic exterior. So when others boast about their expensive pans, I can mention that, and not the fact that it’s only £39. Which seems remarkably reasonable given that it not only apparently doesn’t let food stick, but is also so easy to clean ‘you’ll never have to scrape off burnt meats or sauces’. Which is handy considering how often I can find myself distracted by something, and then smelling the delicious aroma of burnt food stuck to a frying pan.

Apparently it’s also dishwasher safe, oven safe up to 260°C, and 100% PFOA free. There’s debate about the potential risk of Perflueorooctanoic acide (PFOA), but if you can avoid it for under £40, it feels like you might as well. More important is probably the cast aluminium body with a stainless steel base so heat is quick and even, and it’s titanium reinforced. Plus it comes with a lifetime guarantee including the non-stick. So it should be a great investment, especially as it’s also induction compatible.

It turns out you can also get the non-stick technology in a 3-piece saucepan set for £135, which again means you can cook without oil and butter. And the pans are also induction compatible, dishwasher safe, oven safe to 260°C, and have the same aluminium body with stainless steel base for quick and even heating.

The 16cm, 18cm and 20cm saucepans with lids include curved handles which stay cool. And the ‘eazipour’ lids allow you to drain excess water without a colander, which sounds ruddy amazing if you find yourself reaching for something still coated in lumps of pasta from the night before, and then risking scalding over the sink. Sounds like genius to me, and the night sky finish looks pretty cool too. Although it’s either night sky or paint spattered, depending on whether you’ve been doing any decorating recently. Either way it looks good, and 3 decent saucepans for £135 isn’t too bad.

The features of the roast are pretty similar to the other production above, with the mix of aluminium, stainless steel and some titanium reinforcement. And the 4.3L capacity is sizeable enough to handle a fair bit. I like the Night Sky finish for £55, but you can also go for Scarlet if you want to match a special edition overal casserole dish also available…

John Lewis have a few other exclusive Eaziglide products, including a wok, milk pan, grill pan and more. I’m definitely intrigued by the idea of a grill pan that never sticks, and is also apparently made from aviation grade aluminium. Nothing worse than going to get a perfectly seared steak from a pan and then leaving half of it stuck to the griddle. Especially if you’ve spent money on getting some quality meat with which to prepare a romantic meal and then lost half of it.

There aren’t a ton of reviews online for eaziglide, although the Independent mention them in their best saucepan list. And every review on the John Lewis site seems full of praise. It’s enough for me to want to try them out anyway. Just need to see if I can get a limited edition gold number…
