Sega has released the animated Sonic short “Chao in Space”, based on the characters which originally appeared in Sonic Adventure. Back in the days of the Dreamcast, we were introduced to raising the little Chaos. And since then they’ve popped up in various Sonic titles.
And one running gag has been the fictional in-game movies which appear in the Sonic titles, including Chao in Space. Which you can now finally enjoy.
The cartoon has been created by the team behind the Sonic Mania Adventures and Team Sonic Racing : Overdrive web series.
As you’d imagine for a meta animation which has appeared 20 years after the original in-game posters first mentioned it, there are plenty of easter eggs within the 4 minute story.
We’re not going to list them all, but some of our favourites include a NiGHTS based Chao, copies of Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces, and Chaos Soda.
And if you’re a fan, then you’ll be pleased to know there is some official Sega merchandise for the Chao in Space animation, with the Sega Shop currently stocking an official Chao in Space mug, a T-shirt, and a poster.
So you can now own a poster of an animation inspired, by a poster for a movie, which appeared in a game. Which pretty sums up the modern world of videogame tie-ins and merchandise perfectly.
Obviously if you’re missing any actual Sonic titles, now is a good time to stock up via your Christmas wish list, or an early present to yourself. There’s a pretty good selection via Game, Amazon and eBay.
