Co-Op Action RPG Killsquad To Launch Summer 2019

24th May 2019 By Dan Thornton Leave a Comment

Ever fancied being a futuristic sci-fi bounty hunter ? With co-op action RPG Killsquad coming to Steam Early Access in Summer 2019, you’ll have the chance to try it out for yourself.

The name refers to the teams of hunters grouping together to complete contracts. So you’ll be able to play in single player or with friends. And you’ll need to cope with dynamic environments on each planet you encounter, with procedurally-generated levels meaning it’s different every time.

Add in automated defence systems, deadly creatures and other enemies to battle, and there should be plenty going on.

There are four character classes, with the Assassin, Warrior, Specialist and Support to level up and customise. And the RPG elements include loot, upgradeable gear, and a live contract system which means you’ll be offered contracts to undertake in real time – with other players able to drop in and join an open mission to lend a hand.

If you’re not convinced by Killsquad yet, it’s still worth giving it a second look towards Summer. Mainly because the indie developers Novarama are actually First Party External Developers for Sony, and known primarily for the Invizimals franchise. The augmented realist game has sold more than 2.5 million units, so although Killsquad is their first self-published title, they’re a pretty experience indie outfit.

Watch the Killsquad Trailer:

The look and feel actually reminds me a lot of Livelock, which was first title developed by Tuque Games and came out in 2016. That focused more on being a futuristic top-down twin-stick shooter. But a lot of elements in both games reference fairly common game and sci-fi conventions. And the ability to join other players in open mission.

Having played Livelock through a lot after it was part of Xbox Games with Gold, I’d definitely be up for something that builds on that type of action. Here’s hoping Killsquad can deliver when it arrives on Steam Early Access.

Free Xbox Live Games With Gold For October 2018

4th October 2018 By Dan Thornton Leave a Comment

The Free Xbox Live Games With Gold for October 2018 are a bit of a strange mix. The modern Xbox One titles include current top-down shooter Livelock and multiplayer cooking title Overcooked. Later in October, action RPG Victor Vran becomes available. Meanwhile both backwards-compatible Xbox 360 titles are going a long way back in time with Stuntman Ignition from 2007, and Hitman Blood Money from 2006.

Free Xbox Live Games With Gold For October 2018

Overcooked is available throughout the month. The chaotic co-op and competitive cooking game for up to 4 players from Team17 would normally cost you £12.79. Released in 2016 by developers Ghost Town games, it was actually awarded BAFTAs for Best Family and Social Game and British Game.

Livelock will stop being free on October 15th. It’s another 2016 release, this time developed by Tuque Games. It’s a decent top-down twin-stick shooter with co-op online multiplayer. But no local multiplayer, weirdly. You do save the normal £7.99 price though.

Victor Vran will be free from October 16th, 2018.  The PC version appeared in 2015, but it’s actually an updated port which arrived on Xbox One in June, 2017 as Victor Vran: Overkill Edition. As the title character you’re battling against a demon infestation in the city of Zagoravia. And there’s co-op multiplayer, a variety of different areas and dungeons, and you can tweak your character by swapping weapons, consumables and spells. So you’re not limited to a specific character class. Which is nice.

Stuntman Ignition was a decent enough experience as a Hollywood stuntman when it was released back in 2007. Although the normal price of £11.99 for a digital download seems a little rich, so if you want to experience it, download it before October 15th.

Hitman: Blood Money is the other Xbox 360 backward compatible game for October, being available for free from the 16th. And the fourth installment in the Hitman series from IO Interactive and Eidos remains a good one. Although being 12 years old, it’s been emulated and improved on quite a bit since then. But the Notoriety System was an interesting addition, as being caught or noticed will make you more likely to be caught in the future. And you can use an NPC as a human shield, dump bodies in suitable containers, and upgrade some of your featured weapons over time. It also has a good soundtrack composed by Jesper Kyd, and sold 2.1 million copies.
